Chana Dal Vada Recipe

Chana dal vadai or masala dal vada recipe made with chana dal, poha and spices which makes this snack tastier or crunchy.

  • 1 Cup Chana Dal/ Bengal Gram Soaked
  • 1 /2 Cup Poha/ Flattened Rice Washed
  • 1/2 Cup Onion Finely Chopped
  • 1/4 Cup Roasted Peanuts Crushed
  • 2 Green Chilies Finely Chopped
  • 1 Tsp. Ginger Finely Chopped
  • Handful Coriander Leaves Finely Chopped
  • Salt to Taste
  • Chaat Masala to Taste
  • Red Chili to Taste
  • 1 Tsp. Cumin Seeds/ Jeera
  • Oil for Frying


  1. Wash and Soak the Chana dal in water for 3-4 hours.
  2. Wash the poha also in water twice a time.
  3. Drain the excess water and grind the dal with poha in a mixer till Coarse batter. (Add 1-2 Tbsp Water if required)
  4. Now Add this Mixture into a separate mixing bowl. Add chopped onion, peanuts,green chili, ginger, coriander, jeera, salt, chaat masala, red chili powder and 1 tbsp. oil. Mix it very well.
  5. Now make small sized flat vadai or cutlet shaped.
  6. Heat oil for deep frying on medium flame. Add vada one by one and deep fry till golden brown. Drain them on a kitchen towel to absorb excess oil.
  7. Serve hot chana dal vadai with chutney and hot tea.
