Mango Dal

Mamidikaya Pappu or Raw mango dal is delicious and easy to make south Indian dal recipe which made with toor dal and raw mango.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 Cup Split Pigeon Peas / Toor Dal
  • 1 Medium Sized Raw Mango, Peel and Cubes
  • 1 Medium Sized Onion, Chopped
  • 1 Medium Sized Tomato, Chopped
  • 2-3 Green Chilies, Chopped
  • 1 Tsp. Turmeric Powder
  • Salt to Taste
  • 1 Tsp. Cumin Seeds
  • 2 Tbsp. Ghee
  • 1/4 Tsp. Asafoetida
  • 10-12 Curry Leaves
  • 2-3 Dried Red Chilies
  • 1 Spring Coriander Leaves, Chopped

Instructions
 

  • Wash and soak the dal in water for atleast 30 minutes. 
  • Add dal, mango cubes, salt, turmeric powder, onion, tomatoes and green chilies in pressure cooker with water and mix well. Cover with lid and cook for 4-5 whistles or until tender. 
  • Open the lid and mash the dal. 
  • Heat the ghee in tadka pan, add cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves, dry red chilies. Pour the tadka over the dal and mix well. 
  • Cook for extra 5 minutes and garnish with coriander leaves. 
  • Serve hot with rice recipe.
