Dabeli is a popular street food of India, originating in the Kutch region of Gujarat. Dabeli means Pressed in Gujarati language.

It is a spicy snack recipe made by mixing boiled potatoes with dabeli masala, chutneys, coconut, pomegranate, coriander, onion, peanuts and sev. This potato mixture stuffed in a bun and serves it with sauces. You can serve this bun as plain or saute with butter on tawa.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dabeli Masala is very spicy and flavorful masala which you can easily found in provision stores or you can use homemade dabeli masala. To make dabeli masala at home, we need cinnamon, cloves, asafoetida, cumin, red chilies, and coriander seeds and roast them in pan and grind it as fine powder. Dabeli masala is ready to use. You can store this masala in airtight jar or you can keep this masala in freeze.

 

 

 

 

Now days you can found many variation in dabeli dish and easily available all over India. Today I’m sharing dabeli recipe which I tried at home. My family loves this snack. It’s a complete meal and you can taste lots of flavor in one bite… sweet, spicy, crunchy, and tangy and more.

What we needed to prepare Kutch Street food Dabeli

6 Pav/ Buns

1/2 Cup Butter

1/4 Cup Onion, Finely Chopped

1/4 Cup Dabeli Masala

1/4 Cup Masala Peanuts

1/2 Cup Sweet Chutney

1/2 Cup Red Chili Garlic Chutney

1/4 Cup Sev

1 Cup Potato Masala

For Potato Masala

1 Cup Boiled and Mashed Potatoes

2 Tbsp. Water

2 Tbsp. Oil

4 Tbsps. Pomegranate Arils

4 Tbsps. Dried Coconut Shaving

4 Tbsps. Green Coriander, Chopped

2 Tbsps. Tutti Frutti

For Red Chili Garlic Chutney

12 Dried Red Chilies

8-10 Garlic Cloves

4 Tbsps. Water

Salt to Taste

For Dabeli Masala

2 Dried Red Chilies

1 Tsp. Coriander Seeds

1/2 Inch Cinnamon Stick

3-4 Cloves

1/2 Tsp. Cumin Seeds

1/4 Tsp. Asafoetida

 

How to prepare kutchi dabeli at home, here is directions

For Red Chili Garlic Chutney

Soak the red chilies in water for 15-20 minutes. Now grind the red chilies in mixer with garlic, salt and water to make fine paste. Transfer this chutney into a bowl and keep aside.

For Dabeli Masala

Dry roast the spices in pan till to aroma come out. Transfer the roasted spices with hing in mixer and grind them till to fine consistency. Transfer the powder into a bowl and keep aside.

For Potato Masala

Heat the oil separate pan, add 2 tbsps. dabeli masala and stir on a medium flame. Add mashed potatoes and 2 tbsps water and mix well. Add salt if required and cook it for 3-5 minutes on low flame. Now transfer the potato mixture in to a plate and flatten it. Garnish with tutti frutti, coriander leaves, and grated coconut and pomegranate seeds.

How to Assemble

Slice the pav and then spread sweet chutney, chili chutney and stuffed with potato masala, add chopped onion and peanuts. Roast the dabeli with butter on hot tawa from the both sides and garnish with Sev. Serve dabeli with extra peanuts and sauces.

Ingredients
  

  • 8 Buns/ Pav
  • 1/2 Cup Butter
  • 1/4 Cup Onion Chopped
  • 1/4 Cup Dabeli Masala
  • 1/4 Cup Masala Peanuts
  • 1/2 Cup Meethi or Sweet Chutney
  • 1/2 Cup Red Chili Garlic Chutney
  • 1 1/2 Cup Potato Masala
  • 1/4 Cup Sev

For Potato Masala

  • 1 Cup Potatoes, Boiled and Mashed
  • 2 Tbsps. Oil
  • 2 Tbsps. Water
  • 2 Tbsps. Dabeli Masala
  • 4 Tbsps. Pomegranate Arils
  • 4 Tbsps. Coriander Leaves Chopped
  • 4 Tbsps. Dried Coconut Grated
  • 2 Tbsps. Tutti Frutti

Red Chili Garlic Chutney

  • 12 Dried Red Chilies
  • 8 Garlic Cloves
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/4 Cup Water

For Dabeli Masala

  • 3 Dried Red Chilies
  • 1 Tsp. Coriander Seeds
  • 1/2 Inch Cinnamon Stick
  • 3-4 Cloves
  • 1/2 Tsp. Cumin Seeds
  • 1/4 Tsp. Asafoetida

    I have never tasted a Dabeli before and this is what I wanted to make for the alphabet D, but chose something else instead. Love your recipe and I am bookmarking to try soon. My boys love any kind of sandwich with pav buns and they would love this.

  7. yummmyy is all I can say. Wish I could have this right away. My daughter and I love dabeli. I remember when some years back we went to Dwarka, we both literally survived on it..having it for lunch and dinner.
