Meetha Khichdi or khechudi is very popular dish in Orissa which is known as Odisha also. This time i shared sweeter version of khichdi from Orissa region which made with rice, yellow lentils, whole spices and sugar. It is generally served during special occasions or festive time. Mitha khechudi is served with load of desi ghee and grated coconut as parsadam.
Khechudi is very popular in Odisha. The varieties of khechidi in Odisha include adahengu khechidi (ginger-asafoetida khichdi), moong dal khichdi, etc. Adahengu khechidi is a popular dish in the Jagannath Temple, as well. At home, moong dal khechudi and other khechidis are served with papad, pickle, curd, aaloo bharta, or baigan bharta, raita, dalma, and chutney.
Rice is the staple food of this region. Mustard oil is used in some dishes as the cooking medium, but ghee (made of cow’s milk) is preferred in temples. In old times food was traditionally served on banana leaves or disposable plates made of sal leaves.
