Mamidikaya Pappu or Raw mango dal is delicious and easy to make south Indian dal recipe which made with toor dal and raw mango. First you have cook the dal and mango cubes together in cooker and then tempered with curry leaves and red chilies. To make this dal recipe tastier, add onion, tomato and green chilies in cooker with dal.
The tangy flavor of the raw mango brings out the taste in this dal recipe. It is a perfect option for everyday meal recipe which you can be served with hot rice and spoon of ghee.

What we need to make Mango Dal:
1/2 Cup Split Pigeon Peas / Toor Dal
1 Medium Sized Raw Mango, Peel and Cubes
1 Medium Sized Onion, Chopped
1 Medium Sized Tomato, Chopped
2-3 Green Chilies, Chopped
1 Tsp. Turmeric Powder
Salt to Taste
1 Tsp. Cumin Seeds
2 Tbsp. Ghee
1/4 Tsp. Asafoetida
10-12 Curry Leaves
2-3 Dried Red Chilies
1 Spring Coriander Leaves, Chopped
How to cook Mango Dal:
Wash and soak the dal in water for atleast 30 minutes. Add dal, mango cubes, salt, turmeric powder, onion, tomatoes and green chilies in pressure cooker with water and mix well. Cover with lid and cook for 4-5 whistles or until tender. Open the lid and mash the dal. Heat the ghee in tadka pan, add cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves, dry red chilies. Pour the tadka over the dal and mix well. Cook for extra 5 minutes and garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice recipe.

- Open the lid and mash the dal.
- Heat the ghee in tadka pan, add cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves, dry red chilies. Pour the tadka over the dal and mix well.
- Cook for extra 5 minutes and garnish with coriander leaves.
- Serve hot with rice recipe.

We love mango dal and I make it regularly in the summer months. But I have never added onion and tomato in it.
