Healthy Sprouts Salad

 

Healthy Sprout Salad is a Healthy Indian salad or you can say chaat where we have to combine the crunchy and healthy moong or moth sprouts with onion, tomato and other ingredients.

This sprout salad recipe is quite easy to prepare and you can serve as side dish with your lunch or dinner meal. For more variation, you can add boiled potatoes, carrots, and radish or even add other sprouts such as moong sprouts, chana sprouts, amaranth, kulith sprouts.

 

This salad is easy to make and good option for lunchbox. It is very nutritious and healthy.

 

Sprouts are a rich source of nutrients and beneficial plant compounds. However, generally speaking, the sprouting process increases nutrient levels, making sprouts richer in protein, folate, magnesium, phosphorus, manganese and vitamins C and K than un-sprouted plants.

 

What is the moth beans and How to eat?

A legume (Vigna acontifolia) cultivated especially in India for its edible cylindrical pods and small seeds. The seeds can be cooked and eaten as a vegetable and can also be processed as dals to preserve them for a long time. And later can be prepared in sprouts and also be cooked as any other dal or beans. In India, green pods are eaten as a vegetable, and the tiny seeds are eaten whole or split.

 

 

Is moth and matki same?

Moth beans are similar to whole green moong in terms of shape and size. But the color of matki is brownish yellow while moong beans are dark green.

 

How matki are sprouted?

First you have to clean and wash the legumes and then soaked in water for 6-8 hours.  Wash the matki again and drain the Water. Subsequently, hang the soaked matki in a moist cloth for 10-12 hours (depending on the climate) or till you see the sprouts coming out of the muslin cloth.

 

 

 

Can you sprout in the fridge?

For the freshest sprouts, sprout your own, and then store them in the refrigerator. If you’ve bought some, try to get them into the refrigerator as soon as you can. If you handle them properly, they should keep for a few weeks in the refrigerator.


Is moong sprouts good for health?

A Moong sprout is a notorious sprout. It is a good source of several nutrients like vitamins, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus etc. These sprouts are a good source of protein.

 

How do you eat moth beans?

Ingredients:

2 Cups of Moth Sprouts

1/2 Cup Onion, Chopped

1/2 Cup Tomato, Chopped

1/2 Cup Cucumber, Chopped

2 Green Chili, Chopped

1/2 Cup Pomegranate

2 Tbsps. Coriander Leaves, Chopped

2-3 Tbsps. Lemon Juice

1 Tsp. Black Salt

1 Tsp. Roasted Cumin Powder

1/2 Tsp. Red Chili Powder, Optional

1 Tsp. Chaat Masala

 

Method:

Add all the ingredients in mixing bowl and mix well.

Refrigerate the salad for max 15-20 minutes.

Serve fresh and healthy sprouts salad.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 Cups Moth Sprouts
  • 1/2 Cup Onion Chopped
  • 1/2 Cup Tomato Chopped
  • 1/2 Cup Cucumber Chopped
  • 1/2 Cup Pomegrante
  • 2 Tsp. Green Chilies Chopped
  • 2 Tbsps. Green Coriander Chopped
  • 2 Tbsps. Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 Tsp. Black Pepper Powder
  • 1 Tsp. Black Salt
  • 1 Tsp. Chaat Masala
  • 1 Tsp. Roasted Cumin Powder
  • 1/2 Tsp. Red Chili Powder Optional

Instructions
 

  • Add all the ingredients in mixing bowl and mix well.
  • Refrigerate the salad for max 15-20 minutes.
  • Serve fresh and healthy sprouts salad. 

Notes

You can even steam the sprouts in pressure cooker or steamer.
