Crunchy Onion Pakoras (Onion Bhajji) Recipe

Bhajiyas or pakoras are spicy and fried snack similar to fritter which are originated from India. Onion bhajis are often eaten as a starter in North India. It’s very popular street food also which are commonly available at local vendor shops.  You can serve onion pakoras or bhajiyas with green pudina chutney or amchoor chutney. Onion pakoras are spicy and crunchy snack which you can serve as starter or with main course as side meal.

What are the benefits of Onion?

All fruit and vegetables are essential for daily diet and include certain kinds of benefits. Onions are members of the Allium genus of flowering plants that also includes garlic, shallots, leeks and chives. Onion includes many medicinal properties which are used to treat ailments like headaches, heart disease and mouth sores. It contains various vitamins, minerals and potent plant compounds to promote the health in many ways.

Ingredients for Crunchy Onion Pakoras:

2 Cups Onion, Sliced

2 Green Chilies, Finely Chopped

2 Tbsps. Coriander Leaves, Chopped

3/4 Cup Gram Flour

Salt to Taste

Red Chili Powder to Taste

Chaat Masala to Taste

2 Tsp. Coriander Powder

1/2 Tsp. Garam Masala

1/2 Tsp. Turmeric Powder

1/4 Tsp. Asafoetida

1 Tsp. Carom Seeds

Oil for frying

1/2 Cup Water for Mixing

 

How to make Crunchy Onion Pakoras:

Combine onion, spices, coriander, green chilies and besan together and mix well. Add water slowly and mix well. Heat the oil in a heavy bottom wok. Drain it on absorbent paper. Serve with ketchup or Indian chutney.
