Rajasthani Kasar Magadh Churma Recipe

Magad Churma is a famous recipe of Rajasthan which is also called kasar. It is made on special occasions such as Diwali, Holi, Janmashtami and more. It takes less time and you can store this sweet for long time.

Sawan or Shravan month is very auspicious month in Hindu Dharam. There are many festivals that we celebrate such as Teej, Raksha Bandhan, and more. Many people offer kasar or choorma as prasad to GOD.

For this recipe, you have to add ghee and milk in wheat flour and mix well. Keep it few minutes. Roast the wheat flour till to golden brown and mix fried nuts, coconut powder and powdered sugar (bura).

 

 

 

 

What is Churma or Choorma?

It is coarsely ground wheat crushed and cooked with ghee and sugar. Traditionally it is made by mashing up wheat flour baatis or rotis in ghee and jaggery or sugar. More desi or traditional version of churma called choorma is very popular in Haryana, Rajasthan, Awadh, Punjab and UP.

 

What is the taste of churma?

Churma is fried or roasted dough dumplings sweetened with sugar and flavoured with cardamom, saffron and nuts. Churma is very nutritious especially for kids as it is made with whole wheat flour, nuts and ghee. To get the authentic churma taste there is no compromise in adding ghee and it cannot be substituted with oil.

Rajasthani Magadh Choorma or Kasar Recipe

 

Ingredients

1 Cup Wheat Flour

2-3 Tbsps. Ghee

2-3 Tbsps. Milk

1/2 Cup Nuts (Almonds, Cashews and Raisins), Chopped

1/4 Cup Dry Coconut, Grated

1 Tsp. Cardamom Powder

3/4 Cup Powdered Sugar (Boora)

 

Instructions

Add 1 cup wheat flour, ghee and milk and mix well. After mixing, press the mixture together and keep it covered for 15 minutes to raise. Now mash it lightly with hands and sieve the flour with large hole sieve.

Now add 2-3 tbsps. ghee in a pan and fry the chopped nuts till to slightly golden. Take it out in a plate and keep it aside.

Add flour in same pan and fry it on medium flame till it becomes light golden brown. Add 1 -2 tbsps. ghee if needed. After roasting, take it out in a bowl and keep it to cool at room temperature.

Add roasted flour, fried nuts, raisins, coconut powder, cardamom powder and boora and mix well. Now Rajasthani kasar or choorma is ready.

    This is a new recipe to me. I love the batti churma, and look at the profile and pictures, I am sure these would be my favorite too. I will give a try when making prasad for pooja.
